What is a Professional Performer Headshot?

Here, we're defining performers as anyone who spends time working in front of other people, including actors, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, fitness instructors, and yoga teachers.

Where Do You Shoot Professional Headshots in and near Boulder, Colorado?

We have a studio space conveniently located near 32nd and Walnut Street in Boulder - a perfect place to have your performer headshots done in a professional studio environment.

We can also come to your location. If you are part of a group needing actor headshots or performer headshots, we can set up studio lights and a backdrop at your studio, making professional headshots very convenient for everyone without too much travel and lost time in the day. By having one set-up on location we can also ensure consistency between the headshots so they will have a similar look and feel. Within the Boulder area there is no additional transportation cost for performer headshots. There is a $100 travel fee for travel to Denver.

Should I Wear Makeup?

Ladies, plan to wear more makeup than you would usually wear on a normal day or even during a performance, and bring all of your makeup with you.

Gentlemen, please do not wear any makeup, including concealer, unless you normally wear makeup. We will take care of any temporary blemishes in post-production.

We can also recommend makeup and hair stylists if you would prefer assistance from a professional.

What Should I Wear for a Professional Headshot Session?

Dressing for professional headshots can vary by geographical market and industry. When preparing for your headshot, consider your personal brand and audience before making a decision on your wardrobe. It is generally preferred to be overdressed rather than underdressed.

Some basic rules of dressing for a professional headshot:

  • Wear sleeves. The focus should be on your face, and bare arms can draw attention elsewhere. Keep distractions at bay and cover your shoulders and arms.
  • Basic colors that create contrast with the background help make your professional headshot pop! A white shirt with a pure white background can be difficult on the eyes. Similarly, a loud pattern can take the attention away from your face.
  • Wear something that you like and feel good wearing!
  • Bring 2-3 outfits for your photoshoot

What about Retouching?

A well retouched photo should never look retouched. It should look like the best version of you! Retouching will lighten the eyes and teeth, remove blemishes and ease wrinkles. It will soften the skin while keeping the texture intact. The remaining skin texture will prevent the photo from looking manipulated. I will perform more or less retouching depending upon the client’s preference.

Self Care: The day before your photoshoot, drink plenty of water and get a full night's sleep.

Hair: Gents, get a haircut five days before your photos. A day-of haircut stands out in photographs, so let it settle for a few days. If you wear facial hair, clean it up, and if you're clean-shaven, shave every day for the 4-5 days before your shoot.

Ladies, style your hair or hire a professional hairstylist for your shoot.

Bring extra product for your hair, as fly-aways show up more than usual with professional lighting. If you color your hair, have your color retouched as close to your photoshoot as possible.

Nails: If you are planning on any lifestyle shots or in-action corporate photos, get a manicure the day before your photographs. With high resolution photos, clean, trim nails make a big difference.

If you wear polish on your nails, a french manicure or nude colors generally have the most professional look, while darker colors are more casual.

How Should I Prepare for My Headshot?

Yes! We tether our cameras to a computer during your shoot so you can see exactly what your headshot photographer sees. Together, you can make adjustments that compliment your friendly, confident, competent look.

How Much Time Should I Allot for Photos?

While your photographer retains ownership of the photos, you own the rights to use your photographs for your website, auditions, marketing, etc.

Owning the rights to your photos also means taking responsibility for them. You do not have permission to sell these photographs or claim them as your own photography. If you need to use photos for a third party, please check your agreement with Eli.

Before we work together, we will discuss usage rights for the photos and find an agreement that works for everyone involved.
